Emergency and other Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance Funds
In the Jewish Family Service operating budget, there is a line item referred to as Specific Assistance to Individuals, which provides brief, emergency financial assistance for crises, which require payment for food, shelter, utilities and transportation, etc. The focus of such help, within social work philosophy and JFS policy, is to offer financial aid when future independence can be promoted. Any person requesting such assistance must meet with a JFS staff member to determine need for assistance. Individuals are required to utilize any available community resources. These may include: family members, public assistance, CEO, food banks, and the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen. It is the policy of the agency to write checks directly to the vendor, rather than the client.

In addition, JFS has a number of restricted funds which can be used according to each fund's stated purpose.
